Dear John:
While they are still counting the votes from yesterday’s Democratic primary (and will be for at least another week), one thing is clear: Progressive ideas and leaders are on the rise across the state, throughout the city, and up and down the ballot.
We couldn't be more excited about the big leads that Jamaal Bowman and Ritchie Torres are showing in their Congressional races in the Bronx -- and the initial results show strong enthusiasm for progressives across the city, including Donovan Richards and Khaleel Anderson in Southeast Queens.
And despite the millions spent against them, it is looking likely that progressive champions Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez, Diana Richardson, Yuh-Line Niou, Julia Salazar, Yvette Clarke, Jerry Nadler, and Nydia Velázquez will stay in office, fighting for all of us.
Yesterday’s primary election comes as protests in the streets head into their fifth week and the pandemic that has devastated communities of color rages on.
We the people of New York City are sending a strong message, in every manner available to us, that the status quo is unsustainable.
To tackle the enormous challenges ahead of us, we need leaders who fight for bold, tangible change every day. Now, 2020 is a big election year for NY state and the country, but 2021 is when we’ll elect a new team to take NYC into the future.
We can’t just wait to watch what happens, the fight for the next era of New York City leadership is already underway. Will you join special guests Jumaane Williams and Alessandra Biaggi in two weeks to celebrate this progressive momentum and help send Brad Lander to citywide office in 2021?
Thank you so much -- please continue to stay safe,
-- Team Lander
