Last week I went live with Terry Moran to talk about the Trump administration, our lawsuits against it, and what it’s like to battle Trump in the courts.
We ended up talking about much more, and I want to share some thoughts with you from our conversation. (You can also watch our whole discussion here.)
Since Trump was inaugurated in January, I’ve sued him more than once a week. I didn’t set out to do that — I’ve done it because that’s how often this administration has blatantly violated the law and trampled on the rights and freedoms of its own people, and I’ll keep doing it if that’s what’s required to hold Trump accountable to the law.
This moment is a challenging one for California and America. Many people feel disheartened, demoralized, and frightened, and I understand. But I urge you not to feel hopeless — because we’re not helpless.
History has shown that people power is the most potent power there is: from the civil rights movement to the farm worker movement to the restoration of democracy in countries around the world. People will have the first and the last word in the story of this state and this country — but we have to continue standing up and speaking out.
Standing up for what we've built as a country over the past two centuries, speaking out to protect the fundamental principles our nation was built on: the rule of law, democracy, freedom, human and civil rights.
Our Constitution was built for a moment like this — it was designed to protect against kings and tyrants. As Attorney General, I will do my part and remain unapologetic and resolute in my commitment to defend the Constitution.
But I do need you by my side, because people power requires ALL of us. So I’m asking you today: Will you support my re-election campaign so we can keep up the grassroots fight for justice, freedom, and democracy for all?
We have each other, and that’s a powerful thing.
I’m grateful for your support in this work, and I’ll keep updating you as we continue our fight against this administration’s flagrant violations of the law and the Constitution.
