Dear neighbor, This week, I introduced my first bill of the 119th Congress and secured 22 legislative priorities in this year’s National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). Working with my colleague, Rep. Salud Carbajal, we re-introduced the, ‘Fight for the American Dream Act,’ allowing participants of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival (DACA) program to serve in our military. I also urged Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth to stop the renaming of the USNS Cesar Chavez. | Rep. Cisneros Wants to know... Do you support DACA recipients serving in the military? I worked across the aisle with Rep. Jack to introduce this common-sense, bipartisan legislation that upgrades the Small Business Administration’s IT practices, ensuring the agency can keep pace with the needs of today’s small businesses. As a Navy Veteran and the former Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness, I fought this week to secure 22 legislative priorities—totaling over $478.4 million in authorization—for national security and our country’s most important asset, our servicemembers. I’m proud to have partnered with Rep. Salud Carbajal to reintroduce the Fight for the American Dream Act to allow DACA recipients to enlist in the military. I championed this legislation as the Undersecretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness, and as a member of Congress. Our military is made up of people from all backgrounds, united by the desire to protect and serve our nation. DACA recipients, who call this country home, want to contribute and make our country better. Lastly, I co-authored a letter with Rep. Sam Liccardo to urge Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth to keep the name of the United States Naval Ship Cesar Chavez. Renaming this ship is an abominable politicization of our military. | This Week in California's 31st | Covina High School celebrated a groundbreaking ceremony for their new premier Softball and Athletic Complex last week.
