Hi friend,
I hope you are doing well. For this week’s Patriot Weekly, I wanted to call attention to Trump’s education cuts and how they’re impacting our community, the fight for reproductive rights, the Big Ugly Betrayal’s healthcare cuts, and my efforts to hold Pete Hegseth accountable for his betrayal of our men and women in uniform.
I also wanted to note the importance of focus and repetition in our messaging. There’s such a deluge of BS coming every day out of the Trump White House that it's easy to get lost or distracted. That’s their goal. But we need to remain laser-focused on Trump’s devastating cuts to healthcare and education. Every American must know about these before the midterms, and that’s the task ahead of us.

What’s going on
Hudson Valley
[link removed] [[link removed]]What I’m doing: IPublic schools are the lifeblood of our communities, and Trump’s $7 billion dollar funding cut would have a real impact on our education system here in the Hudson Valley. Trump continues to betray the fundamental principle of investing in our next generation of leaders to create a better future for us all. As I said in the article, “Trump’s cruel — not to mention illegal — attack on our kids’ education has reached a new low. Withholding funds from after-school and summer programs, right when school gets out, isn’t just devastating for the kids the programs serve — it puts enormous pressure on working parents.”
Public schools are a core part of the American Dream, and we must continue to fight for them.
What you can do: If the American people knew about Trump’s cruel education cuts, they’d be outraged. But there were so many awful parts of the Big Ugly Betrayal, and such a deluge of bad policies coming daily from the Trump Administration, that this one isn’t getting the attention it deserves. We’ve all got to use our platforms to change that. Call your representative to say you support public schools and broadcast the issue on social media.

What I’m doing: Republicans are going all out to bring their extremism to the Hudson Valley and all of New York, but we’re standing up to fight for freedom. Acting Ulster County Clerk Taylor Bruck stood his ground denying Texas’s MAGA Attorney General’s attempt to file a summary judgement against a local doctor who was just doing her job to provide critical healthcare services to her patient in Texas. The Hudson Valley doesn’t back down, and we will continue to stand for freedom and stand with each other.
What you can do: We cannot let these encroachments on our fundamental rights fly under the radar. The GOP thinks it can take away our freedoms without enough people noticing or caring to make a difference. Prove them wrong. Keep speaking out and letting all your connections know about what they’re doing.

What I’m doing: Much of the news cycle has moved on from the Big Ugly Betrayal, but we cannot happen. People need to keep hearing about this—over and over again—because that’s the only way we can hold Republicans accountable. At my telephone town hall this week, I detailed specific healthcare facilities in the Hudson Valley that will be affected by Medicaid cuts, including Bon Secours in Port Jervis, HealthAlliance and Benedictine in Kingston, and St. Luke’s in Cornwall. Garnet Health Medical Center in Wallkill has already cut staff and programs. The bill’s effects don’t all kick in at once, and we need to remind people at every step of the way who is to blame.
What you can do: Keep sounding the alarm. Stay vigilant about how this betrayal is impacting your community. If you’re noticing a change in your community from this administration, like Immigration raids or cancelled funding for public works, post on social media about it. We have to make as much noise as possible. And don’t let anyone forget that nearly every single GOP House member voted for this bill.
Going on offense

I’ve been holding Pete Hegseth accountable for his disastrous tenure at the Department of Defense. He’s an unqualified disgrace to our men and women in uniform who never should have been appointed, and who I’ve called on many times to resign. Hegseth’s “leadership” is FUBAR (if you don’t know what it means, Google it). I love our service members, and I hate what he’s doing to them. I’ll continue using my platform every day until we see accountability.
Keep the faith, keep up the fight, and thank you for reading!
In Solidarity,
Pat
