For 30 years I pastored a congregation, preaching almost every Sunday. Since retiring from the pastorate, I haven’t stopped preaching. I guest preach in pulpits around the country. I preach in the chapel where I teach at Yale Divinity School. I preach, as I always have, when a Word of truth is needed in the public square.
But in this season of my life, as we continue to build up and support a moral movement across the country through Repairers of the Breach [ [link removed] ], I’m grateful to be able to serve as a guest minister-in-residence for a few weeks at a time in a community.
This month, I am at First Baptist Church-West [ [link removed] ] in Charlotte, North Carolina, where I preached this message today about how God works in the world. It’s a message for the church, but its truth also applies to many aspects of life for people who may never set foot in a church, mosque, or synagogue. So I’m glad to be able to share this message here on Substack as well.
If you find encouragement from, “Rejoice! The Rejected Will Lead the Revival - This Is God’s Way,” please pass it on.
Our Moral Moment is also available to listen to as a podcast.
Thanks to Renita J. Weems , whose work I cite in this message. I you don’t already, you can follow her important work here on Substack.
