FROM THE FRONTLINES

Climate change is driving extreme rainfall and flooding

Over the past century, massive increases in carbon dioxide, methane, and other greenhouse gas emissions have caused the temperature on our planet to rise. That spike in global temperatures is fueling climate disasters that will only get worse unless we take action. Here’s how Earthjustice uses the law and partners with communities on the frontlines to tackle the climate crisis. Read more: [link removed]

Landmark conservation policy on the chopping block

The Roadless Rule is one of America’s most popular and effective conservation policies. It has protected 58 million acres of our wildest national forest lands from clear-cutting for more than a generation. Learn about the decades-long legal fight to defend it. Read More: [link removed]

BP is proposing another massive, risky drilling project in the Gulf

Fifteen years ago, BP’s Deepwater Horizon disaster in the Gulf of Mexico became the worst marine oil spill in U.S. history. Now, BP is asking the federal government to allow it to drill even deeper for oil in the Gulf of Mexico with its proposed Kaskida drilling project. Read more: [link removed]

Trump’s EPA cancelled hundreds of environmental justice grants across the country

PUSH Buffalo was awarded $20 million by the federal government to fund a project that would build hubs in under-resourced neighborhoods that would help communities weather blackouts and other emergencies, especially in snowy New York winters. This project is part of the Environmental and Climate Justice Grant Program created by the Inflation Reduction Act meant to address longstanding pollution issues and invest in community resilience. Read about other community projects that had their grants unlawfully terminated and which were slated in your community. Read more: [link removed]

Earthjustice’s first class action lawsuit aims to get communities the funding they’re owed

“Our grant would have helped people who live day-to-day with air pollution to have a meaningful say in the environmental decisions that affect their lives. Now, communities like ours will not receive the critical support needed to make change — support that we legally and contractually received.”
– Jennifer Hadayia, Executive Director of Air Alliance Houston and Earthjustice client, speaking on the Trump administration’s unlawful termination of a grant program.

Our clean air protections are in danger of being undone

For decades, Earthjustice’s litigation has helped strengthen the laws that protect communities from dirty air and reduce climate pollution. Now, the Trump administration wants to undo many of the rules that limit air pollution: [link removed]

HOW YOU CAN HELP

We must stop this ultra-deepwater drilling project in the Gulf of Mexico

Let the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management know that the proposed Kaskida project poses significant risks for the Gulf, and it threatens the public health of Gulf communities, numerous types of marine life, and the regional economy.
