Monday, July 14, 2025: This past weekend, I was in Nashville, TN, at the McKesson Corporation’s IdeaShare Conference, which brings community pharmacists from across the country to discuss improving outcomes for patients. McKesson is a diversified healthcare services leader and is a leading pharmaceutical and medical supply distributor. On Saturday, I had an early morning interview with WJCL-TV in Savannah to discuss Sen. John Ossoff’s rally in Savannah today to protest The One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA) that he voted against. By voting against the bill, Sen. Ossoff was voting for the largest tax increase in our nation’s history that would increase the taxes of 88% of Georgians by an average of $1,500. Later, I am honored to share the stage with my fellow pharmacist in Congress, Rep. Dianna Harshbarger (R-TN), as we bring the attendees of the conference up to date on pharmacy legislation currently being considered in Congress. Later in the day, I have a virtual interview with WTOC-TV in Savannah to discuss the Ossoff rally today before taping a video for McKesson and having an interview with Chain Drug Review to discuss pharmacy legislation currently being debated in Congress. I’m up early this morning as I fly to Washington and, once in our office, I have a series of meetings beginning with our communications staff, followed by our scheduling staff, and then our legislative staff. Afterwards, I head to the House Chamber where I give one of the toughest speeches I have ever given as I honor the life of Janie Hunt, my twin granddaughters’ 9-year-old cousin, who perished in the flash floods of July 4th in Kerrville, TX. Once back in our office, I have a call with Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Region IV Administrator, Denise Cleveland-Leggett. Next, I head back to the House Chamber where I speak on a bill I am sponsoring, the Institute for Telecommunication Sciences (ITS) Codification Act, before heading to the House Press Gallery where I participate in a press conference sponsored by the conservative Republican Study Committee (RSC) in observance of the one year anniversary of the attempt on President Trump’s life in Butler, Pennsylvania. Once back in our office, I film a video for the Georgia Young Farmers convention before having a virtual call with our district team. After heading off Capitol Hill for a meeting with the CEO of Legacy Medical Consultants, I head to our weekly Whip Team meeting, and then to the House Chamber for our first vote series of the week. Afterwards, I pay tribute to Ben Chapman, a pharmacist from Richmond Hill who recently passed, and then head off Capitol Hill for a meeting with the Digital Chamber of Commerce.

Tuesday, July 15, 2025: Today is a very sad day as I fly to Dallas, TX, to attend the funeral of Janie Hunt, my granddaughter’s 9-year-old cousin, who perished in the flash floods in Kerrville, Texas, on July 4th. This was Janie’s first year at Camp Mystic, and she had been at the camp less than a week when tragedy struck. She had gone to the camp with 5 of her cousins, including my twin granddaughters. Janie was one of the 21 campers in the Bubble Inn cabin that was washed away by the flash flood that saw the water rise 26 feet in 45 minutes. None of the campers in the Bubble Inn survived. Janie was a vivacious and shining spirit whose short time on this earth touched the lives of everyone who met her. Once during a kid’s talent show at the beach, Janie ran up on the stage and started singing “Go Tell It on the Mountain.” The family played the video from that day for the overflowing Church to see, and afterwards, Janie’s 16 cousins took to the choir loft at the Church and sang “Go Tell It on the Mountain.” I want to thank all of you who have kept our family in your thoughts and prayers during this most difficult time. We love you, Janie.

Wednesday, July 16, 2025: I’m off Capitol Hill and in downtown Washington this morning as I am honored to address the Alliance Physician conference at their annual fly-in meeting. Representing over 100,000 physicians and surgeons in the U.S., this alliance is a coalition of medical specialty societies. Once back in our office on Capitol Hill, I meet with our White House liaison, Joe Ballard, before meeting with the Georgia Association of Manufacturers and then heading to an Energy and Commerce (E&C) Health Subcommittee markup on Rural Health and Over-the-Counter Medicines. Next, I head to another E&C subcommittee hearing, Environment, on recycling, before heading to the House Chamber where I pay tribute to Avery Low, Jr, a WWII veteran who was honored in France, Lani Yearick, a US Army veteran who is retiring, my good friend, Fort Stewart commander Gen. Chris Norrie, who is transferring, and Stan Correll, an 82 year old who has logged over 1000 miles to bring attention to Veteran suicides. Once back in our office, I meet with the CEO of Biohaven, then with the CEO of Encompass, before heading off Capitol Hill to meet with the CEO of Herrick Steel. After heading to the House Chamber for our first vote series, I meet with Pittsburgh Steelers football player Calvin Anderson regarding malaria and then head to the White House for the signing of the Halt Fentanyl Act that I co-sponsored. Once back in our office, I meet with my good friend, Georgia Southern University President Kyle Marrero, and his staff, before heading back off Capitol Hill to meet with the CEO of Manus Bio. My last engagement of the day is at the Ronald Reagan Institute, where I am on stage with Rep. Jimmy Panetta (D-CA) for a fireside chat for students on bipartisanship.
