It may not happen often, but it’s possible – I helped reverse one of Trump’s recent terrible ideas, saving tens of thousands of jobs for Virginia’s veterans.
As part of his so-called “Department of Government Efficiency” initiative, the Trump administration had planned to lay off over 80,000 employees at the Department of Veterans Affairs — a gut punch to the workers who care for our veterans and keep the VA running.
Thanks to coordinated action — from veterans, union members, and members of Congress like me — that plan was scrapped. Instead, the VA has announced a dramatically reduced workforce adjustment, avoiding mass firings and saving more than 53,000 jobs.
It’s a major victory. And a reminder that when we push back, we can protect what matters.
But I’ll be honest: we’re not out of the woods. The Trump administration is still moving forward with plans to shrink the federal workforce, slash critical programs, and undermine the services Americans count on every day.
And with my Republican opponent backed by these same special interests, we know what we’re up against in this race.
In moments like these, it matters who’s in the room. I’ll always be there to speak up for our veterans, for our public servants, and for Virginia’s working families.
