Dear friends,
The Inga People have protected their rainforest home for centuries.
It’s one of the places our planet feels most alive -- the lush tropical forest, snaking streams and deafening waterfalls between the Caquetá and Putumayo Rivers in the Colombian Amazon.
Alongside dozens of Indigenous Peoples here, they’ve protected this forest like family -- knowing the animals are their kin, that their ancestors live in this land's memory. But in the eyes of the law, most of their ancestral lands don't even exist.
That’s why they’re under attack: from land grabs, mining, logging -- with no legal way to end the destruction. Imagine living in the same family home for generations, only to be told: ‘get out’.
Threats are arriving faster than communities can respond. We have to act now.
Together with dozens of Indigenous Peoples, we’re launching a new movement to reclaim thousands of hectares of land, putting it back into Indigenous hands. Our donations would help secure legal land titles, map territories, plant thousands of trees in damaged sections -- and push politicians for lasting change.
The more we raise, the more we can protect: dozens more watersheds under Indigenous care, tens of thousands more seedlings planted in the ground, hundreds more hectares safeguarded. The Inga and all the Indigenous Peoples of the Amazon know that everything is interconnected. If you feel that in your bones too -- that everyone’s fate is bound to the Amazon’s -- then help protect this forest and put land back in Indigenous hands today.

Wherever Indigenous Peoples live and care for the rainforest, it flourishes. But when their land is taken away -- it falls apart. It’s a battle of mindsets. The mindset that says ‘this is ours’, ‘nature is dead’, and ‘to hell with the future’. Or the mindset that knows that every living thing is sacred.
Reclaiming these territories means securing food and water for hundreds of communities. It’s the difference between homelessness on the edges of settler towns, or a home in the forest. Between cultural erasure -- or ancient ceremonies, kept alive.
This is about securing the future. But to get there, it’ll take all of us. If we raise enough we could:
Enable Indigenous Peoples to secure legal titles and expand their collective lands -- funding land purchases in Colombia to place them back into the hands of Indigenous Peoples, shielding them from deforestation and exploitation; Restore the Amazon, tree by tree -- backing Indigenous families to regenerate over 6,000 hectares of rainforest , the size of Manhattan, and laying the groundwork to scale this model across the Amazon basin; Fight the far-right politics that wants to erase Indigenous Peoples’ rights -- pushing for lasting change in the law across the Amazon Basin , fighting injustice through legal actions and media work, and helping a historic push to expand Indigenous land rights in Brazil ahead of a global climate summit later this year; Map and expose threats to the forest -- funding detailed maps of land conflicts, deforestation, illegal mining, and land grabbing -- evidence that fuels legal victories and public outrage; Set aside funding reserves for urgent campaigning in the Amazon -- fueling rapid-response actions, legal defenses, and mass mobilisations to fight the far-right agenda threatening both Indigenous rights and the rainforest. Our community has always supported Indigenous Peoples in their time of need. Hundreds of families are now calling on us for that same support. If we look away, the Amazon could be emptied -- and the forest could tip over the point of no return. But if we stand and fight, we can help save Earth’s greatest living miracle.
If you know that the Amazon is worth fighting for, then please donate what you can now:

We’re a community of over 70 million people -- fighting for our interconnected and vulnerable Earth. Study after study shows that Indigenous Peoples are critical to protecting the Amazon, and that’s why we’re funneling as much support as we can into their fight. They’re the ones who can best protect the forest, for the future.
With hope and determination,
Jon, Camille, Laura, Bert and the whole team at Avaaz
