Earlier this week, while most Americans were sleeping, House Republicans pushed through another round of massive cuts under the so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) initiative — this time targeting NPR, PBS, and international aid that saves lives.
They framed it as “fiscal responsibility.”
But here’s the truth: just two weeks ago, these same lawmakers voted to add $6 trillion to the national debt through the President’s “One Big Ugly Bill” — all while slashing Medicaid, weakening education, and gutting civil rights enforcement.
It’s reckless. It’s dishonest. And I voted no.
Public media like NPR and PBS keep our communities informed. Foreign aid supports our national security, prevents humanitarian disasters, and reflects the best of American values. Slashing these programs while exploding the deficit isn’t fiscal discipline — it’s political theater.
