Dear John,
I wish I could write to you today with better news.
But early Thursday morning, in the dead of night, while most of us were sleeping, Senate Republicans voted to strip federal funding from public broadcasting and slash $8 billion in life-saving foreign aid.
Never in my life have I seen any president or Congress do so much damage in so little time.
I know many of you are feeling deep grief and anger, as am I. But it’s time to channel that anger into action and hold the Republicans who voted for this monstrosity accountable by defeating them for reelection and taking back control of Congress.
Inequality Media Civic Action has already begun what we expect to be our biggest midterm election campaign ever, and we’re aiming to raise $200,000 by the end of this weekend to help take our campaign to the next level.
Will you start a monthly a donation right now to help educate the public about the damage Trump has caused and take back control of Congress?
The budget rescissions passed by Congress this week will take back $1.1 billion for public broadcasting, cutting off local public radio and television stations all over the country.
This is two full years’ worth of funding that had been previously approved by Congress and signed into law. Local stations are reeling. Many, especially those in rural, small-town, and tribal communities, will undoubtedly be forced to shut down.
The bill also cut $8 billion in foreign aid for programs like UNICEF, which provides basic food and health care to the poorest children in the world ages 5 and under — all to help fund more tax breaks for billionaires like Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, and Trump himself.
The only way we can repair the damage that Trump has done is to defeat the Republicans who voted for this horrific legislation and take back control of Congress.
And we have a plan to help do exactly that.
We’re experts at crafting highly persuasive videos that reach tens of millions of people across social media, where young people and other key demographic groups get their news. These are the voters who swung to Trump in the last election and don’t see the hundreds of millions of dollars’ worth of ads run on TV by the big Democratic super PACs.
That’s why I truly believe that Inequality Media Civic Action is the most effective place for you to invest your hard-earned money to hold Republicans accountable and help take back Congress.
So I’m asking you today: Will you start a monthly donation to help Inequality Media Civic Action educate the public, hold Republicans accountable, and win back control of Congress?
Thank you,
Robert Reich
