Howdy Comrades!

We’ve got a quick weekend update for you: check below for urgent news about our Immigrant Justice campaign, some info on our Eco-Socialist working group’s transit campaign, plus a DSA labor initiative and an invitation to a roundtable social with our chapter’s 2025 National Convention delegates!   

Demand City Council End Collaboration with ICE! Call Your Councilmember Testimony Training, and Pack City Council Rally!

For the past three months, HDSA members with our Immigrant Justice Campaign have been working to pressure the city government to do more to protect immigrants from escalating attacks by the Trump administration. Their canvass events have gathered over 1100 signatures for our five-point petition; they've also distributed know-your-rights information to workers across town, and they've collaborated with Houston Leads on a Scouts training for community defense against ICE. Now we need you to turn out for the next steps of the campaign!

We need all of our members to contact their city council representatives: urge them to stand up against mayor Whitmire and HPD’s collaboration with the forces that are tearing apart our communities, workplaces and schools.  We're also hosting a training on July 24th where you can learn to confidently testify at City Council meetings, a critical tactic in our organizing.

Because on July 29th, Houston DSA is calling members and supporters to Pack City Hall!  We have an opportunity to send a clear, compelling message: We want ICE OUT OF HOUSTON!  Socialists cannot tolerate the Houston city government's open accommodation of terror and harassment against immigrants and people of color -- not in our community, or anywhere else. Update Your Labor Affiliation

Members: National has put out a request for union-affiliated DSA members to update their union information using this simple form. You’ll answer a couple of questions regarding your current or past affiliation, which helps us plan campaigns – and if you’re not currently a union member, you can express your interest in supporting workplace organizing efforts as well. 

July 19th: Delegate Social!

Today our chapter’s delegates to the 2025 DSA National Convention will be hosting a informational discussion and social at Bohemeo's. The Convention is the highest decision-making body of the largest socialist organization in the US, where members from all over the country vote on resolutions that will chart its course over the next two years: from funding and staffing to the shape of our internal democracy and DSA's political platform. Come out to meet with your delegates and learn more about the important proposals they'll be deliberating on!

Eco-Socialism

Join Houston DSA and community members in demanding METRO shifts its focus back to the sustainable mass transit plans we voted for. The next opportunity to make your statement to the Metro Board is Wednesday, July 30th! You can join in person or online.
