Republicans just passed a bill that claws back $9 billion in federal funding.
Their targets? PBS, NPR, and their local member stations.
Let me be clear—this wasn’t about saving money. It was about silencing trusted, independent media that millions of Americans rely on, especially in rural and underserved communities.
I grew up watching public broadcasting and I know many of you did too. PBS and NPR deliver educational programming, local reporting, emergency alerts, and cultural content that strengthen our communities. These stations are a lifeline for families who can’t afford cable or private streaming services.
Slashing their funding while billionaires enjoy tax breaks doesn’t make anyone safer or more informed. It just makes us less connected, less informed, and less free.
This is part of a larger pattern—undermining public goods so the powerful can keep more for themselves.
