Friend,
Selection and confirmation for a President's Cabinet – or nomination to a lifetime position on the federal bench – should never come down to political loyalty. These positions require competence, experience, and a deep commitment to the Constitution and the rule of law. And historically despite individual perspectives on specific issues, that has been the norm for the nominees of both Republican and Democratic administrations.
But Trump's nominations and appointees betray those standards.
Exhibit A: Pete Hegseth. From gross financial mismanagement at nonprofits meant to serve our veterans to blatant security breaches like the widely publicized Signal scandal, Hegseth has proven time and again that he is unfit for leadership. And now? He reportedly recently halted U.S. military aid to Ukraine without even consulting the President. His actions are rogue and reprehensible – especially in a moment when our allies need us most.
His position isn't just one that demands better. It demands the best. His decisions are a matter of life and death for the millions of American heroes who put their lives on the line to serve our national security and our national defense.
Hegseth simply has no place anywhere near our national security apparatus, and he needs to go. But it doesn't end there.
Exhibit B: Trump's judicial nominee, Emil Bove, has refused to answer even the most basic questions about his role in the suspicious dismissal of corruption charges against New York City Mayor Eric Adams. That decision reeked of a quid pro quo – one that benefited the Trump administration's immigration agenda. Bove's pattern of abusing prosecutorial power isn't just concerning – it's disqualifying.
He refused to acknowledge that Januaruy 6, 2021 was an attack on the Capitol but referred to what happened that day– in writing on his Senate questionnaire – as “a matter of significant political debate”, and subsequently played an active role in the firing of career prosecutors who worked on the cases that resulted from that day’s horrific events. Hundreds of DOJ veterans have signed a letter highlighting Bove’s lack of judicial temperament and his limited judicial qualifications.
Vengeful and devoted to Trump – not to the rule of law – he poses a real and present danger.
These are not isolated incidents. They are symptoms of a broader corrosion of ethics, standards of professional capability, fundamental disregard for democratic norms, and a dangerous slide toward authoritarianism.
I am doing everything in my power to fight back. I will continue to challenge these appointments. I will keep demanding answers. I will not stop speaking out and speaking up. And I will not stop working to protect the integrity of our democracy and the institutions that serve it.
But I need to make sure that you are in this fight with me, friend. Can I count on you to join in the fight to fire Hegseth, block Bove, and defend the rule of law? Sign on now to stand with me to stop incompetence from eroding our nation.

Thank you for standing with me.
Sincerely,
Dick
