JOHN,
Last month we launched our 2025 Youth Civic Engagement Fellowship, and thanks to your support we’re able to offer this free program to more students than ever before.
Out of 89 applicants, we accepted 18 fellows, ranging in age from 14 to 24. 100% of the cohort is BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, or people of color), and 67% are female.
Your donations are powering our youth engagement work―including the Youth Fellowship this summer and our Youth Advisory Council starting in September and running through May of next year.
Donate to my Rooted in Community Leadership PAC today to empower the youth in our communities to be the leaders we need now and into the future.
During our first meeting, fellows learned about how to stay rooted in progressive values from the Executive Director of Detroit Disability Power.
Today is our second meeting of the Youth Fellowship. This weekend we’ll hold an Organizing 101 training, led by the Michigan State Director of the Working Families Party. We’ll also do a deep dive on criminal justice reform, led by the Executive Director of the Detroit Justice Center and the Executive Director of Michigan Liberation.
Youth fellows will also begin reporting back on the official city council, school board, or library board meetings they have attended―a new requirement of our Fellowship this year.
Our Fellows participate in 30 hours of instruction followed by 20 hours of field work, after which they’ll receive a $1,000 stipend.
As we continue the Youth Fellowship, we’re also gearing up to launch our Youth Advisory Council, where we’re offering a chance for high school students to work alongside me and other policymakers to create meaningful change.
With your support, we’re giving young people the hands-on experience they need to be leaders in their communities and help craft legislation that uplifts their communities—such as my Youth Homelessness Guaranteed Income Pilot Program Act to address youth homelessness by providing monthly cash assistance.
At a time when people face so much fear and uncertainty, it is inspiring to see these undaunted young people who are ready to make a difference.
Donate today to power our ongoing youth engagement work to train the leaders of tomorrow, today.

Together, we are empowering the next generation to fight for our communities and our rights.
In solidarity,
