John,
On Thursday night, House Republicans rammed through a defense budget that puts politics over our safety. I voted no — because I refuse to stay silent while they endanger national security and abandon our allies.
This wasn’t just another budget bill. It would:
Eliminate 45,000 public servants from the Department of Defense
Slash $170 million in counterterrorism funding
Strip $300 million in aid to Ukraine, while it fights for its survival against Russia
And roll back access to reproductive care for military families
That’s not national security. That’s a political stunt.
I took an oath to defend this country and our people. But this bill isn’t about keeping Americans safe; it does the opposite. It weakens our military, helps Trump loyalists take control of the DOD, and gives Putin exactly what he wants.
And for military families? They tried to roll back access to reproductive health care, too. I won’t let that slide.
I’ve served this country in uniform. I stood up to Trump when I blew the whistle on him — and paid the price. And now, in Congress, I’ll always call out the dangerous stuff — no matter the political cost. I’ll never stop defending truth, democracy, and those who serve.
But speaking out comes with consequences. And I’m already one of the GOP’s top targets in the House.
