For weeks, I’ve been trying to schedule an oversight visit to the Adelanto ICE facility. As a Member of Congress, I have a legal and constitutional obligation to ensure that people in our district are not being subjected to inhumane conditions.
But the Department of Homeland Security, under Donald Trump’s leadership, has repeatedly stonewalled me.
DHS has continuously changed their policies, delayed our requests, and made excuse after excuse to prevent me and other Democratic Members of Congress from entering the facility.
I don’t need permission from DHS to do my job.
Congress has a constitutional right to conduct oversight. The Trump administration’s attempt to block us is not just unacceptable — it’s unlawful.
Blocking Members of Congress from overseeing ICE detention facilities doesn’t fix any issues at the border, it doesn’t make our communities safer, and it sure doesn’t create solutions. What it does do is chip away at our democracy and puts all of our civil liberties at risk.
Trump and his allies are using federal agencies to avoid scrutiny and punish their political opponents. They want to hide what’s happening behind closed doors — and silence those of us fighting to expose it.
We won’t be intimidated. But I need your help.
Because I am standing up to Trump, his supporters have put me on the target list. MAGA is actively preparing to unseat me in the Midterm Elections, but Team Ruiz is fighting back.
I’m committed to standing up to this dangerous overreach — but I can’t do it alone. Will you contribute $10 to help power our fight for accountability and protect the future of our democracy?
Thank you for standing with me,
Raul
