The Week in Review
Happy Friday!
I hope you had a wonderful week. I am grateful to serve you all in the 119th Congress. Read below to see what I’ve been working on this week.
Fighting for Conservative Priorities in FY 2026 Appropriations Bills
The House is continuing its work to pass twelve individual appropriations bills before government funding runs out on September 30. This week, I voted to pass H.R. 4016, Department of Defense Appropriations Act, 2026. This bill:
- Codifies President Trump’s orders to eliminate DEI, bans funding for sex-change surgeries, abortion travel, drag shows, and COVID vaccine/mask mandates, and leverages DOD-DOGE collaboration to streamline Pentagon operations, aggressively cutting wasteful spending
- Allocates $1.15B for counter-drug programs, boosts National Guard Counterdrug efforts, and shifts Mexico to U.S. Southern Command, powerfully strengthening border security and anti-trafficking measures
- Keeps budget at $831.5B, matching FY25, ensuring fiscal discipline with no spending increases
- Raises troop pay by 3.8%, supporting military families and veterans without impacting VA services or claims
I spoke in support of an amendment sponsored by Rep. Tom Tiffany (R-WI) to prohibit funding for any map that depicts Taiwan as a territory of the People’s Republic of China. Click the image below to watch my remarks on the Floor:
President Trump and House Republicans Save Taxpayers $9 Billion
Today, President Trump signed H.R.4, the Rescissions Act of 2025, into law. H.R. 4 passed the House early this morning by a vote of 216-213.
This bill claws back $9 billion in wasteful spending, including:
- $1.07 billion in cuts to National Public Radio (NPR) and Public Broadcasting Service (PBS);
- $900 million in cuts to Global Health Programs promoting abortion pills, LGBTQ+ activism, and DEI dogma abroad;
- $125 million in cuts to the Clean Technology Fund (CTF), a vehicle for funneling billions into Green New Deal-style projects in foreign nations.
$9 billion is only a drop in the bucket, and the work is far from over. House conservatives and President Trump remain committed to restoring fiscal sanity and saving taxpayer dollars. I’ll keep you posted.
Urging Senate Leadership to Preserve Spending Cuts in the House Rescission Package
This week, I led a letter to Senate Majority Leader John Thune urging the Senate to preserve the entire $9.4 billion in spending cuts contained in the House rescission package. The Senate had a chance to prove its commitment to President Trump’s America First mandate by passing the long-overdue cuts targeting wasteful bloat.
At $36+ trillion in debt, our nation is careening toward a financial cliff.
$9.4 billion is a small drop in the bucket of wasteful spending that must be reined in, but cutting taxpayer dollars to mouthpieces for the Left and radical, woke programs abroad is a commonsense start. If Congress refuses to support modest cuts like those included in the House’s rescission package, fiscal doom is inevitable.
Fox News covered the letter here.
The letter may be read here.
The Senate stripped $400 million of cuts from the House’s original rescission package, meaning that the final version cuts $9 billion instead of $9.4 billion. I will continue fighting to advance President Trump’s most conservative priorities.
Vindicating Parents Targeted by Biden's Weaponized DOJ
I joined a press conference to vindicate parents targeted by Joe Biden’s weaponized Department of Justice for protecting their children. It was an honor to join the courageous parents, leaders, and patriots who stood up for their children.
Parents don’t surrender their rights at the school doors, and they certainly don’t take marching orders from a weaponized government. They, not the government, are the ultimate authority in a child’s life.
I will always fight for parental rights against woke indoctrination by radical school boards. You can watch the full press conference here.
House Oversight & Government Reform Committee Depositions
The House Oversight Committee is continuing our investigation into the coverup of Joe Biden’s mental decline and the potential illegitimate use of an autopen.
This week, two more of Biden’s bureaucrats pled the Fifth in front of the Oversight Committee:
- Anthony Bernal, former Chief of Staff to Jill Biden
- Annie Tomasini, former Assistant to the President and Deputy Director of Oval Office Operations
There is now an established pattern of key Biden confidants seeking to shield themselves from criminal liability for this potential conspiracy. It’s unacceptable that Kevin O’Connor, Anthony Bernal, and Annie Tomasini refuse to answer basic questions about President Biden’s fitness to serve. It’s apparent they would rather hide key information to protect themselves and Joe Biden than be truthful with the American people about this historic scandal. There needs to be transparency and accountability, and we will continue to pursue the truth and examine options to get the answers we need.
House Judiciary Committee Hearing
I chaired a Crime and Federal Government Surveillance Subcommittee hearing titled “Artificial Intelligence and Criminal Exploitation: A New Era of Risk.” Criminal use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is expanding and has become a serious issue both domestically and abroad. AI-enabled threats continue to evolve as bad actors use AI technology in a wide spectrum of criminal enterprises. As AI technology continues to advance and become more pervasive in society, law-enforcement capabilities must also evolve to meet the challenging changes.
At the hearing, my colleagues and I were able to hear from subject-matter experts about how to combat criminal exploitation through AI and Congress’s evolving role in it. Click the image below to hear my opening statement:
