Alabama’s U.S. Senators vote to slash $9 billion in wasteful spending from
foreign aid, public broadcasting

U.S. Senators Katie Britt and Tommy Tuberville joined their Republicans
colleagues in passing targeted spending cuts that were recommended by the
Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
“This is a common sense approach,” Britt (R-Montgomery) told Fox News before
the final vote.
“This money was way outside of the mission of what it was intended for. We’ve
got to rein that in. We have to cement our values and our opportunity for our
people. To your point, this is the easy stuff and the American people deserve
better. This is their money, this is not ours and we’ve got to treat it like
such and we’ve got to be more responsible.”

Alabama's two U.S. Senators joined forces this week to send President Donald
Trump a letter requesting that his administration rescind the Biden
administration’s final rule mandating Project Labor Agreements for federal
construction projects.
In December 2023, the Biden administration published in the Federal Register
the Federal Acquisition Regulatory Council’s final rule, Use of Project Labor
Agreements for Federal Construction Projects. The rule applies to large-scale
federal construction projects valued at $35 million and would severely hinder
merit-based competition, costing taxpayers billions of dollars annually.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WKRG) — A bill introduced by Senator Katie Britt (R-Ala.),
and passed by the Senate, is aimed at protecting local fishermen from illegally
caught fish being sold in the U.S.
According to a news release from Britt’s office, the Illegal Red Snapper and
Tuna Enforcement Act, co-sponsored by Commerce Committee Chairman Ted Cruz
(R-Texas) and senators Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) and Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii),
instructs the National Institute of Standards and Technology and the National
Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to create a standard method of
identifying the country of origin for red snapper and some species of tuna that
is imported into the United States.
