Neighbors,
As we move through the summer, I want to take a moment to thank you for staying engaged in the issues that shape our city’s future.
This week, the Council held its first vote on the Fiscal Year 2026 budget, advancing a plan that reflects our shared priorities and the realities of a challenging fiscal landscape. As your At-Large Councilmember, I remain committed to fighting for a budget that supports working families, grows our economy, and strengthens communities across all eight wards. From housing and public safety to youth programming and small business support, I will continue advocating for a balanced and responsible budget that delivers for the people we serve.
There is more work ahead, and I look forward to continuing these important conversations with residents, stakeholders, and my Council colleagues. Together, we can build a more equitable, inclusive, and resilient District of Columbia.
In service,
Kenyan

Public Safety Meet Up with MPD Fifth District
|
|
Team McDuffie joined the MPD's Fifth District and agency partners for a Public Safety Meet-Up in the community. These neighborhood walks are an important way for us to connect directly with residents, identify concerns, and promote a safer, more united Ward 5 and citywide.
We encourage residents to take proactive steps to enhance public safety by joining or starting a neighborhood watch group and taking advantage of the District’s Private Security Camera Incentive Program, which offers rebates for security camera installations on your property.
We extend our sincere thanks to MPD Fifth District and all our government and community partners who continue to show up and support these efforts.
If you or your neighbors have specific concerns about crime or safety in your area, we invite you to request a community safety walk by contacting our office, we’re here to listen and take action.

Community Spotlight
Lederer Gardens (Ward 7)
|
|
Tucked into the heart of Ward 7 at 4801 Nannie Helen Burroughs Avenue NE, Lederer Gardens is more than just a farm, it’s a vibrant community space where neighbors come together to grow food, share knowledge, and build a healthier future.
Originally established over 50 years ago, Lederer Gardens was revived during the COVID-19 pandemic and is now operated by the DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR). What started as a response to food insecurity has grown into a thriving communal farm and educational hub.
Here’s what makes Lederer Gardens a local favorite:
-
Weekly veggie giveaways from May through November, offering free fresh produce to residents
-
Open volunteer hours where community members of all ages get involved
-
Youth gardening and greenhouse education programs, focused on sustainability and food justice
-
A revitalized greenhouse currently in development to expand year-round growing and programming opportunities
Run by DPR’s Urban Agriculture Division, Lederer Gardens continues to empower residents through hands on learning and access to nutritious, locally grown food.
