New Democrat Coalition Leadership issued a statement on the House passage of President Trump’s request to cancel $9 billion in congressionally appropriated funding for foreign assistance – including global health and food programs – and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.
“The ink is still drying on the President’s Big Bad Bill, and Republicans are already back making life harder for the American people – gutting essential funding that keeps our country safe and saves lives. Once more, under the cover of night, Republicans crammed through legislation to sell off Sesame Street and close down local broadcasting in rural communities.
“The $9 billion worth of cuts in this package won’t help to lower costs for working families or make a dent in the $4 trillion of new debt Republicans passed two weeks ago. The cuts will, however, weaken our national security, lead to millions of preventable deaths around the world, and threaten public information lifelines that mean so much to so many – especially in underserved small towns and farming communities across our heartland.
“As the cost of living continues rising, it’s clear that hardworking families can’t afford Republicans’ chaotic, cruel and costly agenda. That’s why New Dems will keep fighting back, working to protect the funding and programs everyday Americans rely on.”

** Here’s 12 Things Republicans Hid in Their Big Ugly Bill
------------------------------------------------------------
** By New Dem Leadership Member Andrea Salinas (OR-06)

Congresswoman Andrea Salinas ([link removed]) represents Oregon’s 6th district, and serves as a New Dem Leadership Member in the 119th Congress.
Republicans’ Big Ugly Bill is also a Big Bloated Bill. At nearly 1,000 pages long, it’s packed with harmful policies that will make everyday Americans less healthy and less wealthy, all while giving tax breaks to the ultra-rich.
New Dems have joined hundreds of lawmakers and news outlets in emphasizing the major consequences of this legislation, from ripping healthcare away from 17 million Americans to cutting food assistance and adding trillions to the national debt.
But that’s just part of the story. This week, I joined the Fly-In podcast ([link removed]) , hosted by my colleagues Reps. Greg Landsman and Marc Veasey, where we talked through some of the lesser-known provisions Republicans included in this bill.
Following up on that conversation, I’m sharing the full list of 12 policies Republicans jammed into the bill under the radar, and why they matter to everyday Americans:
** 1. Tax cuts for private jet purchases.
------------------------------------------------------------
While the lowest-income households lose money thanks to this bill, billionaires will be getting even more tax cuts on their private jets and company cars. Republicans added a provision that restores the major corporate tax break ([link removed]) known as 100% bonus depreciation, so Bezos et al. can buy a $50 million jet and deduct the entire sum from their taxes the year of the purchase (rather than distributing it over several years).
That means everyday Americans who lose their healthcare or their food assistance while facing higher taxes and higher prices will be subsidizing billionaire spending sprees to the tune of $378 billion ([link removed]) over the next 10 years.
** 2. Student loans will skyrocket.
------------------------------------------------------------
The bill includes several provisions that not only force students to pay more by gutting loan forgiveness ([link removed]) and eliminating all but two repayment plans, but also cap lifetime borrowing limits ([link removed]) for graduate school at $100,000 and medical and law school at $200,000. These maximum borrowing amounts won’t cover the cost of many graduate degrees, including medical ([link removed]) and law ([link removed]) degrees, exacerbating the existing shortage of doctors (already expected to reach 86,000 ([link removed]) by 2026). As if that weren’t enough, the bill also
sets a cap on what parents can pay for dependent undergraduate students...

** New Dems Present Episode 13 of The Fly-In, "Medical Emergency" with Rep. Andrea Salinas
------------------------------------------------------------
** [link removed]
------------------------------------------------------------
In Episode 13, “Medical Emergency” Reps. Greg Landsman (OH-01) and Marc Veasey (TX-33) are joined by New Dem Leadership Member and Co-Chair of the Bipartisan Mental Health Caucus Andrea Salinas (OR-06) to discuss the devastating impacts of President Trump and Congressional Republicans’ Big Ugly Bill on the American health care system and how that will impact hardworking families. The New Dem Members underscore how this legislation not only rips away health care from 17 million Americans, but will also force rural hospitals and Planned Parenthood clinics to close, prevent Americans from getting the mental health resources they desperately need, and drive up out of pocket costs for families who are already struggling to get by thanks to the President’s tariffs.
Additionally, Landsman and Veasey talk about the tragic flooding in Texas and Rep. Veasey’s anti-corruption resolution calling for the Trump administration to release the Epstein files.
