John,
Before they left Raleigh at the end of June, NC lawmakers passed House Bill 193, which allows some private school staff and volunteers to carry weapons with minimal training, concealed carry permit, and the school's permission. They also passed a bill repealing those same concealed permit requirements in SB 50, the Permitless Carry bill. Governor Stein, a champion for safe schools and safe communities, vetoed both bills - but Republicans and one Democrat have have pledged to override his vetoes when they come back to town, and they have scheduled a veto override vote on HB 193 for July 29th!

Come to a virtual phone bank on July 21st or July 28th. [[link removed]] Getting calls in to lawmakers about why guns do not belong in ANY North Carolina school is URGENT. Help us alert the public and urge them to hold their lawmakers accountable.

Senate bill 50 - Permitless Carry
Despite bipartisan opposition in the House, Republicans may try to override the Governor's veto of SB 50. This bill, if passed, will increase gun violence, like West Virginia (1) and other Permitless Carry states (2) experienced in the years afterwards. We’re teaming up with our friends from Everytown on a press event to hear voices from across the state about why we MUST keep this deadly bill from becoming law. Register for this event [[link removed]] to be inspired, and then join us in taking action.

NCGV volunteers have been speaking out - can you join them?
Private school parents and teachers are speaking out about why HB 193 is incredibly dangerous. Check out these powerful letters in Triangle and Charlotte papers by Karen Kurasch (here [[link removed]-] ), Cheryl Block ( here [[link removed]] ), and Jennifer Hixson ( here, if you have a Charlotte Observer subscription [[link removed]] ).
