TEXAS STRONG

This week, I joined many of my Texas colleagues on the House floor for a moment of silence honoring the victims of the July 4th floods. In Texas' 31st district, eight individuals lost their lives, and one remains unaccounted for. We mourn with those families and for our fellow Texans in Kerr County who also suffered tragic losses. I spoke on the House floor to honor the victims and share my condolences- you can watch that video here.

DEFENSE APPROPRIATIONS

This week, the House considered and passed the Defense Appropriations Act. The bill provides a 3.8% pay raise to America's servicemembers, improves Department of Defense efficiency and effectivness, and invests in new technology to enhance troop safety and readiness. With increased threats to the homeland, it's important that America invest in our military superiority to maintain peace through strength.

CONGRESSIONAL VETERAN COMMENDATION

The nomination period for the Congressional Veteran Commendation (CVC) program is open. The CVC is a nominations-based program designed to recognize both the military service and community service of Veterans living in the 31st Congressional District of Texas. These honorees are exceptional Americans who served our country as members of the United States Armed Forces. To nominate a deserving veteran or learn more, click here. The deadline is August 29, 2025.

As always, thank you for staying engaged with the latest updates from Texas’ 31st Congressional District. It is an honor and a privilege to represent you and our great state in the United States House of Representatives.

Sincerely,

John R. Carter
