John — Donald Trump’s allies in the Congress just took a hatchet to NPR and PBS funding.

For months, Trump has launched unprecedented attacks on the free press and has made it his mission to shut down NPR and PBS.

And early this morning, while many Americans were sleeping, the Republican Majority in Congress voted to let him have his way. 

It’s completely unacceptable, John. I’ve been fighting this bill with everything I’ve got – and today I voted NO. 

Let me break down what this will mean:

• These cuts will be devastating to local NPR and PBS stations and many are expected to completely shut down – it’s been called the “‘worst-case scenario” for public media stations right here in Illinois. 


• Beloved educational children’s programming like Sesame Street might be forced off air.


• Essential weather broadcasting and emergency alerts that save lives are under threat.

Look, Donald Trump has been hell bent on destroying anyone who holds him accountable – no matter the cost. He’s called NPR and PBS “radical left monsters” and attacked journalists like Rachel Maddow for simply doing their jobs. 

He’s ignored court orders, illegally dismantled federal agencies he doesn’t like, and intimidated and arrested political opponents. Now, he’s trying to shut down our first-amendment rights. These are the acts of a dictator, not a president. 

Meanwhile, the cowardly MAGA majority in the Senate is letting him have his every wish. This is a difficult day, John – but we don’t have to stand for it any longer.

We need to flip the Senate Blue to put an END to this insanity – that's why I’m running for Senate, and it’s why I need you with me.
