HIGHLIGHTING THE NEED FOR NATURAL DISASTER PREPAREDNESS:

This week, Senator Kim appeared on The Brian Lehrer Show on WYNC, a New York Public Radio station, and spoke about Noem's FEMA policy that will delay aid, risk lives, and make our communities unsafe when it comes to responding to natural disasters. New Jersey knows all too well how hard it is to recover from devastating storms, hurricanes, and other weather crises, and we deserve leadership that will advocate for us.

“We see this absolutely appalling policy by Secretary Noem that requires any type of grant or any type of resource over $100,000—to be able to get her personal sign off. And her policy specifically says it could take a minimum of 5 days to get approval. We don’t have that kind of time when it comes to crisis response... I’ve called upon her to rescind that policy of hers so we’re not adding more layers of bureaucracy...

Noem’s performance and actions are abominable and honestly, it is a real disgrace to that job and to this department that was set up to protect America, not be weaponized against people living in America.”

Working for you at the Capitol:

Fighting Back Against More Cuts in the Rescissions Bill, Advocating for State Department Employees, and Working to Make Child Care Affordable

FIGHTING BACK AGAINST MORE CUTS IN THE RESCISSIONS BILL:

Last night, Senate Republicans abdicated their responsibility to the American people and put their loyalty to President Trump first.

In voting to cut over $9 billion in foreign assistance and public broadcasting, Republicans went back on their word and clawed back funds they had previously promised, threatening our health, security, and access to information.

Watch Senator Kim speak about the importance of foreign assistance and why we must stand up to protect it.

During the 12-hour voting session in the Senate, Senator Kim highlighted that the attack on public broadcasting is an attack on the stories they tell – including veterans' stories – and introduced an amendment to strike cuts to veterans’ stories. Republicans voted it down and it’s clear where their priorities lie.

Watch the Senator’s floor speech on this effort.

As this bill moves back to the House, we must continue to make noise about the harmful impact this will have and urge House Republicans to uphold their commitment to the American people.

ADVOCATING FOR STATE DEPARTMENT EMPLOYEES:

Last Friday, the State Department fired over 1,300 employees under the Trump Administration’s orders. This decision is devastating. In our rapidly evolving world, we need change that will allow us to shape the world we want for the next generation, not indiscriminate cuts that gut talent and undermine our ability to do so.

Senator Kim went to the State Department to show his support for civil servants and foreign service officers who do the critical work of ensuring our country’s global leadership and ability to counter threats abroad.

His message to all the State Department employees and their families who have been impacted:

“You deserve better.”

WORKING TO MAKE CHILD CARE AFFORDABLE:

This week, the Senator joined his colleagues in Congress to reintroduce the Child Care for Working Families Act, a comprehensive piece of legislation that would ensure families across American can find and afford the high-quality childcare they need.

As Republicans deliver fresh tax breaks to billionaires and kick Americans off their health care, we must continue to expand access to affordable childcare.

On the matter, Senator Kim stated:

“Parents and working families are struggling under an affordability crisis being made worse by the Trump administration — many without any childcare options they can afford or reasonably get their kids to every day. This bill is the comprehensive reform we need to tackle the childcare shortage, deliver families immediate relief, and make sure we better support the workers who go above and beyond to deliver this high-quality care.”
