Kia ora John,

In case you haven't had an email from me before, my name is Teisa and I head up Labour’s brilliant Field Organising programme - the Community Action Network.

I wanted to take a moment from organising to wish you all a happy National Volunteer Week, tell you a bit about how I got into volunteering and hopefully inspire some of you to join Labour's volunteer network.

It all started in 2016 when my mum recruited me to help out in the Living Wage movement - a cause that’s really important to my family given my mum’s long-standing career as a care worker.

Through working in the Living Wage movement, I heard a lot of stories about the unfair treatment of workers and wage disparity they were experiencing, and I knew that I needed to channel my frustrations into activism that would create change.

So, in 2017 I decided to sign up to help Labour win the election. I cut my teeth at a Saturday door knock with Jenny Salesa, our Labour MP for Manukau East, and from there my involvement with Labour snowballed.

I found myself making phone calls after university, knocking doors across South Auckland on the weekends and even helping to run social events for local MPs and candidates. It was a bit scary at first, but the support I received from the CAN team and other volunteers was amazing!

What I learnt from my time as a volunteer is how much impact we can make when we all come together and do our bit for what we believe in. Whether it’s joining a phone bank for an evening or spending a couple of hours door-knocking on a Saturday, you shouldn’t underestimate how valuable your time and efforts are to re-electing a Labour government this year. Will you join us and register your interest to volunteer today?

Our volunteer movement was incredibly active in 2017 and we pushed hard to get Jacinda and the Labour team elected. Now, together, we need to keep moving. With people like you on our side, fighting for what you believe in, I know we can re-elect a Labour government this September.

This National Volunteer Week, will you take the next step and join our grassroots movement?

If you’d like to learn more about how you can volunteer, check out the link below and a Field Organiser near you will be in touch with more information- and don’t worry, you’re not committing to anything just yet!

A short note on donations:

John, recently our focus has been on helping communities through COVID-19. It wasn’t a time for political campaigning, but instead a time for concentrating on the welfare of our communities.

This was absolutely the right decision. But pausing our campaign meant we also put all of our fundraising activity on hold too. So now we’ve restarted our campaign, we’re asking for the help of supporters to help get us back on track.

We recognise that not everyone is in a position to make a financial contribution, and there are many other ways to support our movement. However, if you are able to, please click the button below to make a donation to our campaign fund today.
