John xxxxxx, this is a story about a website.
It’s a little long, so if you don’t have the time to read on – but want to support our campaign today – you can donate right here.
For so many Marylanders out there, the status quo is simply not cutting it. They have found themselves working and existing in a system that was never built for their success, or for their families to get the support they needed.
To get help, they've had to run all across our state. Filling out paperwork, for agency after agency, reminding us about their situation again and again. I mean, it’s almost like the system was designed the way it is because they didn’t want people actually getting benefits.
At a time when the President of the United States chose to take a sledgehammer to basic human services and Congress passed a bill that severs the relationship between the federal government, the states, and the people — in Maryland, we are here to say: No more.
So many families are working hard and playing by the rules just trying to get by. And it is time to make the system work for them.
That is why this week I announced Marylanders can go to a website online and enroll in Medicaid, SNAP, WIC, TANF, energy assistance and emergency assistance, all at the same time and the same place.
It’s called the Maryland Benefits One Application, and it’s a smarter, people-centered approach for the people of Maryland.
We cut the average application time down by nearly a full hour. It means fewer forms, fewer trips, faster service, and more support for families when they need it most.
It ensures that all Marylanders can access the supports they are entitled to.
That’s what I mean when I say ours is a state where we Leave No One Behind. Yes, these times are difficult. But we’ve seen difficult before.
We are promise keepers, and we are meeting this moment.
So this story is about a website, but it’s also about keeping a promise to everyone who believes in our movement and our ability to make change.
John xxxxxx, it’s thanks to folks like you who believe in our mission that we are able to make progress like this for Maryland families.
Thanks for everything you do.
Elevate,
Wes
