Dear Friend,

I have an important update on federal funding to share with you.

Congress has just voted to zero out funding for public media for the next two fiscal years.

As you may know, public media including PBS News Hour has faced serious threats to our federal funding over the past several months. In early June, the White House sent a request to Congress to claw back $1.1 billion in previously approved federal funding for public media over the next two fiscal years. Congress has now approved the elimination of these funds.

While this news presents a major hurdle for PBS News Hour, our resolve to deliver on our mission as a vital, trusted and independent news source remains steadfast ([link removed] ) .

We are determined to continue our crucial work, demonstrating the resiliency that has always defined public broadcasting. The impacts of this decision are significant and we will have some difficult financial decisions to make in the months ahead.

For more than five decades, PBS News Hour has served as a cornerstone of public media, working diligently to preserve trusted journalism. Our mission is to provide you with truly independent, unbiased, and reliable news, comprehensive reporting, diverse perspectives, thoughtful discussions, and in-depth analysis of the day's most important issues.

In an increasingly complex information landscape, safeguarding this mission is more critical than ever. We can only do this with your ongoing support.
