Friend,
Last week, the Trump Administration took bold action to further elevate the security of American agriculture. Farms, food, and our supply chains are national security assets, and they should be treated as such. Food security is national security, and no one knows that better than our farmers and producers.
Under Secretary Rollins’ “Make Agriculture Great Again” initiative, the Trump Administration lays out its plan to safeguard our food supply, strengthen infrastructure, and defend U.S. ag innovation from our foreign adversaries like China.
Right now, farmers rely on China for feed additives, animal nutrition supplements, as well as other ag inputs—compromising the integrity of our food supply and giving China leverage to shut off our access. I was recently touring a small feed mill in my district and noticed a bag of feed produced by a Chinese manufacturer. I mentioned it to the owner of the mill and he confirmed that right now, China has significant control of many critical ag inputs.
That’s why I introduced my bipartisan Securing American Agriculture Act to reduce our reliance on foreign adversaries for critical ag products. President Trump incorporated this bill into the Make Agriculture Great Again initiative to help end our dangerous reliance on China. President Trump’s leadership will change the course of history and ensure America is positioned to win our strategic competition with China on every front.
Under this plan utilizing my Securing American Agriculture Act, USDA will create a list of critical ag inputs and materials and conduct regular assessments to identify risks and security vulnerabilities to the ag sector. This reporting can then be submitted to Congress so we can implement strong policies protecting the ag sector.
I had a great conversation with Secretary Rollins on Air Force One a couple weeks ago and look forward to building on these efforts for Iowans. We must get my bill to the president’s desk so farmers can continue doing what they do best—feeding and fueling the world.
Sincerely,
