Dear Friend,

These days, it's impossible to escape the impact of rising costs -- from the grocery store to our rent and utilities. For some of us, that means our savings accounts have seen better days. But for others of us, it means not knowing if this unpaid bill is the difference between flipping the light switch on, or watching the room stay dark.

The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), is a Reagan-era program that has helped millions of people keep the lights and heat on in their homes since 1981.

Although woefully underfunded, this energy program has supported households across America to afford the energy they need to keep their homes safe, powered, and habitable, especially during extreme heat and cold events. In 2023, this program kept the lights on for 2 million households and restored service to over 250,000 others.

As energy costs skyrocket and extreme weather events grow in intensity, the Trump Administration is moving to slash the entire $4+ billion budget for this program to offset tax cuts for his billionaire buddies. Apparently receiving “government handouts” is only okay when you're stealing them from hard-working families. 🤷
