John,
Donald Trump’s allies in the Senate just took a hatchet to NPR and PBS funding.
In just 60 seconds, here’s what Trump doesn’t want you to know about the bill that is on its way to the House:
📉 $1.1 billion slashed from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. That’s the funding lifeline for NPR, PBS and over 1,500 local stations.
🚨 Emergency alerts in rural areas are at risk. Stations like KUCB in Alaska provided critical updates during a tsunami warning — but could now go dark.
🎓 Free educational programming, like PBS Kids, faces collapse. These stations offer trusted, ad-free learning — especially for low-income families.
📺 The cuts start taking effect this fall. Public media executives are already planning layoffs and program reductions. While big-city stations might be able to sustain themselves, smaller stations often can’t fundraise at the same rate.
So why are they doing this? Because silencing independent media, cutting off vulnerable communities and dismantling public trust are central to Trump’s playbook.
If you’re as opposed to these cuts as we are, please contact your representative in the House to make your voice heard ahead of the vote’s Friday deadline:
Another way you can take action is by pitching in today. Off the Sidelines is organizing a grassroots movement to fight back — and hold every Republican who voted for this to account. Your support today means we can reach the voters who will decide control of Congress — and make sure they know what’s at stake.
Will you chip in now to help us build power and push back against these attacks?
