Hi there!
We’re reaching out because earlier this week we announced Ground Truth, a huge new initiative that will define Swing Left’s work through the midterms—helping Democrats win back power in 2026, 2028, and beyond.
We know from firsthand experience there’s a lot to improve about how campaigns talk with voters and build trust. That’s why we’re aiming for nothing less than a wholesale transformation of how Democrats do voter contact.
If you haven’t already, please give our email from Tuesday a read below. It goes into more detail about our plans for Ground Truth and how we can all play a role in pulling it off.
If you want to help make this initiative a success so we can start winning more seats and flip the House in 2026, [make a donation of any amount you can to Swing Left today.]([link removed])

Thanks for everything you do. We’ll be in touch with more updates soon!

Subject: The way Democrats talk to voters is broken. Here’s how we fix it:
Hi there,
You know it and we know it: Democrats aren’t connecting with large swaths of voters. And it’s costing us elections.
A big part of the problem is that voter contact is broken—not because it doesn’t work, but because Democrats are doing it wrong. Talking to voters, especially face-to-face, is essential to any campaign’s winning strategy. But it doesn’t work if you’re targeting the wrong people, at the wrong time, with the wrong messaging.
We have a plan to change that, and it’s going to take all of us to pull it off. Ground Truth, announced today in The New York Times, is the way to fix how Democrats reach out to voters, rebuild trust, and win elections.
[A quote from the New York Times that reads "'We need to fix the Democratic brand and that requires rebuilding trust and listening,' Ms. Radjy said. 'We can’t be involved in small tweaks anymore.'"]([link removed])
We’re not proposing small, short-term fixes. This is a wholesale reimagining of how Democrats (including grassroots organizers and volunteers like us) talk to voters. Transformation at this scale is how we’ll flip the House in 2026, win back control in 2028, and maintain power in the years beyond.
Ground Truth is a people powered, all-hands-on-deck operation, and there will be lots of ways to get involved starting this fall. [In the meantime, if you’re able, donating $5, $25, or any amount will help us get things off the ground.]([link removed])

Too often, campaigns wait until the final months before Election Day to reach out to voters—and when they do finally start, they exhaust the same people with repeated contact, use bad, one-directional messaging, skip tough conversations, and overlook the 1 in 4 potential voters who don’t appear in the voter file.
Starting this fall—a full year earlier than traditional electoral organizing programs—we will pilot the Ground Truth program in targeted swing districts that’ll be key to flipping the House.
We’re going to knock every door, talk to every voter, listen deeply, and aggregate the ground insights we gather—creating the largest focus group ever.
And, taking advantage of a new federal election rule that lets us organize our own canvassing efforts while still coordinating directly with campaigns, we’ll share what we learn directly with campaigns and party committees to inform their messaging, targeting, and execution.
Where there’s currently a Democratic nominee in a competitive district, we’ll work in coordination with that candidate’s campaign. And in the districts where there’s a late primary, we can’t afford to wait a year to talk to swing voters. We’ll get to work building voter trust, deep local infrastructure, and a pool of valuable data that the eventual primary winner can use from day one of the general election.
This is a massive overhaul of Democrats’ existing approach. It will fundamentally change how Democrats understand voters’ real-life concerns—their ground truth—so we can rebuild trust and win more elections again.
We admit, knocking every door is an astronomical goal. But as we stand at the front door of autocracy, we need to think big and do the ambitious work that meets the moment.
At Swing Left, this is how we’ll direct the time, energy, and resources of our 1+ million members to voter contact that is strategic, meaningful, and early enough to matter. We can only do it with your help. We need to build in-district field teams, a national distributed organizing team, and an expanded data engineering team. Your support will be absolutely critical.
We know the headlines have been brutal, and it’s easy to feel powerless to change things, including Democrats’ messaging and ability to connect with voters. But Ground Truth is how anyone can create a real, tangible impact.
Canvassing and other Ground Truth voter contact programs will begin in September. In the meantime, [you can help fund the work to run this program by making a donation to Swing Left today.]([link removed])
