My Fellow Young Dems,

I hope you’ve been finding moments of rest, joy, and self-care this summer—even as so many of us continue to grapple with frustration and anger watching this extremist, fascist regime try to strip away our rights. But make no mistake: we are not backing down. Our fight continues, and we will keep showing Virginia—and the nation—that young people are leading the charge to protect our future.

It all starts right here in Virginia in 2025. Together, we will work to deliver a historic Blue Wave: electing Virginia’s first-ever woman Democratic Governor, Abigail Spanberger; our first-ever South Asian woman Lieutenant Governor, Senator Ghazala Hashmi; and send Jay Jones to serve as our next Attorney General. We will work to flip the entire House of Delegates—because we know what’s at stake, and we’re ready to do the work it takes to win.

This week, young leaders from across the country are gathering to advance our shared values and strengthen our movement. We’re proud to share that two of our members, AYD President Bryant Atkins and Secretary Kaitlyn Goyal, will be representing VAYD at the Biennial Young Democrats of America (YDA) Convention in Philadelphia as part of Virginia’s Delegation. During this convention, delegates will be electing 2026-2028 leadership and setting the platform. You can learn more about YDA here.

And if you’re looking for a chance to unwind, connect with fellow Democrats, and enjoy some fun, join us this Thursday evening at the Library of Congress for a movie night featuring The Goonies. It’s the perfect way to recharge, build community, and remind ourselves why we fight—for a future filled with joy, opportunity, and progress.

AYD Goes to the Movies! 🎬🍿

AYD is heading to the Library of Congress for an outdoor screening of The Goonies! Join us under the stars for a night of adventure, nostalgia, and good company as we watch this beloved classic with our fellow Young Dems. Bring a blanket, your best treasure-hunting spirit, and maybe a snack or two (food and beverages are okay, but no alcohol is allowed).

Join Arlington Young Dems for a laid-back evening at Continental Pool Lounge in Rosslyn! We’ll be soaking up the summer vibes in the beer garden (weather permitting—otherwise we’ll head indoors). Come hang out and catch up with fellow young dems over a drink or two. New faces are always welcome!

AYD General Body Meeting @ Aurora Hills Library

Join us for the Arlington Young Dems July General Body Meeting! We’ll be discussing proposed changes to our organization’s constitution, including updates to our structure and internal processes. This is your chance to help shape how AYD operates—don’t miss it!

We will be meeting at the Aurora Hills Library in Pentagon City, there is limited library and street parking.
