With all the conflicts of interest and ethical failures weighing down on her, it’s a wonder Attorney General Pam Bondi can even get out of bed in the morning.
Here are a few examples:
- Just last week, Bondi suddenly — and with no explanation — fired the person in charge of ethics within the Department of Justice (as Attorney General, Bondi runs the DOJ).
- Bondi has gutted the DOJ’s famed Civil Rights Division while actively — and shamefully — turning what’s left of it against the very rights it was created to uphold.
- Bondi willingly signed on to be part of Donald Trump’s legal team during his first impeachment trial and has repeatedly echoed his false claims of voter fraud in the 2020 election.
- Before Trump made her the nation’s top law enforcement official, Bondi had been a lobbyist for numerous corporations and foreign governments.
- One of Bondi’s former clients was the nation of Qatar. As Trump’s hand-picked Attorney General, Bondi approved Qatar’s “gift” (i.e. bribe) of a $400 million luxury jet to Trump.
- Another of Bondi’s former clients was the pharmaceutical behemoth Pfizer. Under Bondi’s “leadership,” the DOJ has apparently dropped an investigation into possible foreign corruption charges against Pfizer.
- Under Bondi, the DOJ has all but abandoned enforcement actions against corporate criminals.
- And we won’t even get into the whole “Epstein files” saga that has seen even die-hard MAGA adherents turn on Bondi.
Back in January, one of us (Lisa) testified at a Senate hearing on Bondi’s nomination and urged senators to reject her for Attorney General because of these obvious conflicts of interest and the intense potential for corruption.
Now we are calling for Congress — in fulfillment of its constitutional duty to serve as a check on abuses by the other branches — to investigate Bondi’s conduct at the DOJ.
To Congress:
Pam Bondi’s conflicts of interest as Attorney General are numerous and severe. And her abrupt firing of the ethics watchdog at the Department of Justice suggests there may be even more or even worse ethics problems she is trying to hide. The American people are calling on Congress to investigate any conflicts of interest and ethical failures on the part of Pam Bondi.
