Politics in a Nutshell

U.S. inflation accelerated last month to 2.7%, highest level since February | PBS News

Inflation, the thing Trump promised would be over as soon as he became president, is now the highest it’s been since February. Yearly inflation reached 2.7% in June, up from 2.3% in May. The cost of goods is only growing higher, and with Trump’s new tariffs expected to take hold soon, it will only get worse.

Trump flails as Epstein storm rages around his government | CNN Politics

Despite calls from all sides of the political aisle, Democrats and Republicans alike, Trump has still not released the Epstein files.

Iowa Republicans are blind to the state's economic woes

Zach Nunn is the perfect example of their cluelessness.

Representatives on the Record

Representative Mariannette Miller-Meeks (202) 225-6576

Does Rep. Miller-Meeks support Trump’s tariff hike? What about the thousands of products from tomatoes to toys that will be made more expensive? Inflation is the worst it’s been since Trump took office in February. How can Iowa families afford even higher prices? What is she doing to make sure Iowans’ pocketbooks aren’t drained by these new taxes? Why isn’t she fighting in Congress to lower prices, not raise them?

Representative Ashley Hinson (202) 225-2911

Does Rep. Hinson support Trump’s tariff hike? What about the thousands of products from tomatoes to toys that will be made more expensive? Inflation is the worst it’s been since Trump took office in February. How can Iowa families afford even higher prices? What is she doing to make sure Iowans’ pocketbooks aren’t drained by these new taxes? Why isn’t she fighting in Congress to lower prices, not raise them?

Note From the Chair

Hey folks! Rita Hart here.

Inflation. A key issue in the 2024 election, and something Trump promised would end immediately once he became president.

Alas, Iowa families now have to suffer Trump’s failure to keep his word. Inflation is the highest it’s been since Trump took office in February. This rise in costs will only grow worse as Trump's heightened tariffs take into effect, a combination that will prove devastating to Iowan families.

Our Republican representatives and senators could make efforts to fix this crisis, but they’re busy with their victory lap after gutting Medicaid and SNAP. They’re likely also afraid to return tariff authority to Congress’ control as that would anger not their constituents, but the person they really work for, Trump.

Though that doesn’t mean we can’t put pressure on them. Call your representatives, let them know what you think about Trump’s tariffs and prices rising across the nation. You can also join upcoming protests, rallies, and events. You can find them on our calendar by clicking here, and you can also sign up to volunteer with the Iowa Democratic Party by clicking here.

We can only resist Trump and the consequences of his broken promises if we keep working together. I appreciate your continued involvement and support of the Iowa Democratic Party.

Sincerely,

Rita Hart
