John, it's Hank Johnson.
On the 5th anniversary of John Lewis' death, I want to honor my friend and mentor by calling out this moment in Trump's America for what it is:
Right now, many of the values Congressman Lewis championed—especially democracy and voting rights—are under unprecedented attack, making his legacy more urgent and relevant than ever.
John, Congressman Lewis was a humble man who sacrificed himself for the cause of racial injustice, human dignity, civil rights, and equality for all. He risked his life during the Civil Rights Movement, leading the march across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma on Bloody Sunday, hosting voter registration drives and sit-ins to combat inequity, and serving as a true Southern grassroots organizer to achieve his goals.
John Lewis took action for those who couldn't, no matter how tough or uncomfortable it got, and he inspired others to do the same.
That kind of Good Trouble is what ensured our rights then, and that's the kind of action we must continue to take to preserve our rights, freedoms, and democracy today.
I'm fighting in Congress to uphold this legacy by holding our Judiciary and Executive branches accountable for their violations of our rights as Americans, while pushing for a better, more equitable world. But this isn't something I can do alone. Much like John Lewis organized, collective action is the key. Today, will you join my grassroots coalition and help us defeat injustice at every level by making a donation today?

In solidarity, Hank Johnson
