Yesterday, I joined advocates, legislators, and the Governor for the ceremonial signing of my bill funding suicide prevention measures on the Washington Avenue Bridge on the University of Minnesota Campus. This issue was brought to me by a constituent, MJ Weiss, who lost their daughter to suicide, and pushed for this bill to become law.
Suicide prevention barriers like the ones that will go up on Washington Ave save lives. Thank you to all the students and suicide prevention advocates who testified in favor of this law and will continue pushing to save more lives in the future. You can read a statement from SAVE – Suicide Awareness Voices of Education, here.
I was proud to attend the ribbon-cutting and grand opening of a new business in our district – Asian Mart and Filipino Deli at 1185 Concord Exchange! It’s great to see new small businesses opening up in our community. I hope you get a chance to stop by soon!
Relay for Life IGH-SSP-WSP is coming up on Saturday, August 2 at Lincoln Center Elementary! It’s a fantastic community-led event to raise money for cancer research and awareness, where we can come together to support our neighbors and families that are facing cancer. You can find more information on how to participate, donate, and get involved at the American Cancer Society’s website here.
This Saturday, July 19th from 9am – 12pm is Lawns to Legumes Garden Tour Day! Lawns to Legumes coaches, previous participants, and other DIY wildlife gardeners are hosting neighborhood native garden tours across Minnesota. Get inspired and connect with folks who are planting for pollinators in your area! Learn more and find a map of gardens from Blue Thumb here.
