Hi friend, it’s Dave.
This month is Disability Pride Month, which holds a special place in my heart.
My sister Dorothy has lived with cognitive and behavioral disabilities her entire life. Despite challenges, my sister Dorothy has brought so much love, positivity, and joy to my family’s life. We’ve supported her needs as much as we can over the span of her life, but as anyone with a disabled loved one knows, the costs can quickly spiral out of control.
Medicaid has been a lifeline for our family. Without it, I don’t know if we would be able to provide the life-sustaining care she needs.
I share this because, as I know, many families in this district can relate to our experience. Now, I am running for Congress because I have the lived experience to help many other families experiencing the same challenges.
Supporting my sister has shaped me as a person and undoubtedly informs much of my experience, whether as a teacher, a state representative, or a state treasurer; that's why I’ve successfully fought to increase funding for those with disabilities, protect the budgets of our public schools, and safeguard the pensions of Coloradans who have worked hard their entire lives. It’s about leading with empathy and common sense—not fear-mongering and greed.
Working families and their children deserve a leader who will fight for their needs and interests in Washington D.C. Right now, we don’t have that in Congressman Gabe Evans.
Folks, we know our families deserve so much better. That’s why I’m running for Congress. As I’ve done my entire career, I’m ready to fight for our working families and their needs and interests. Join my campaign today >>
