John --
Great news 🗞️ on the pipeline fighting front -- four states (Minnesota, Michigan, Vermont and Ohio) have filed a court brief in support of our work on protecting local control.
The brief from these states supports Shelby and Story County in Iowa's petition for a full review by the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals of its recent anti-local government ruling, which found county ordinances enacted to place commonsense protections in place against risky fossil fuel projects like CO2 pipelines are "preempted" and overridden by federal law -- which we know is simply not true.

Last Friday, Indiana Action Team and Bold Education Fund sponsored a busload of landowners and advocates to Indianapolis, where they testified at an Indiana Dept. of Natural Resources (DNR) public hearing in favor of stronger state rules for carbon capture and storage (CCS).
Despite its claim that it takes public comment "very seriously," on Tuesday following additional public comment blasting the current proposed rules as inadequate, the DNR voted to approve a set of rules that fail to protect landowners and communities from risky underground carbon dumps. Bold's Energy Builders project just released a new fact sheet: American Energy by the Numbers, which debunks disinformation being spread by oil-industry funded groups about wind and solar -- which actually protect property rights and do not use eminent domain to produce American energy. Read and download our new Fact Sheet.
The Energy Builders project is currently working with state organizers in Nebraska, North Dakota and Illinois to develop Community Benefit Agreements, including an American Energy Dividend for those that live in the viewshed of wind and solar. We believe this model puts more money in local people's pockets, while adding more American-made energy on the grid.
