Team — it’s Claudia with United We Dream. We just wrapped up a transformative weekend at our East Coast Member Gathering.
Over the course of two and a half days, young people from all walks of life gathered in community to reflect, strategize, and reconnect with our deep lineage of social justice and spirituality. Together, we honored our collective history as organizers and our vision for a liberated future.

We started the first day of the gathering by opening the sacred space and calling in our ancestors. After a warm welcome, we headed to a bonfire night to enjoy each other’s company, our natural surroundings, and s’mores!
The next day, we made time for joy and community building. We hosted “the people’s gala” where we had music, dancing, art activities, karaoke, and cake. It’s important for organizers to not only strategize and have hard conversations but to also have fun and practice self-care.
And on the final day of the gathering, we engaged in in-depth brainstorming sessions that will shape how we organize and mobilize our communities. We looked to successful campaigns of the past, like the SNCC voter registration campaign by Black youth organizers in 1960, to inform our present and future.
Creating this sacred space took work, and the conversations we had planted the seeds of freedom that will bring us closer to justice for our communities. But to grow the change we want to see, it’s crucial that we continue having these conversations.
