A Project HOPE-supported ambulance in Ukraine was damaged in a targeted drone attack on July 9.

The attack occured just miles from the front lines while patients were being transported for care. Thankfully no one was injured. But the blast shattered the windshield and driver’s window — a direct hit on a vehicle marked for saving lives.

This is one of the 11 ambulances Project HOPE has provided and is fully equipped to deliver critical care to over 25,000 patients across Kharkiv, Dnipro, and Kherson. The vehicle was clearly marked and is protected under international humanitarian law. A deliberate strike like this puts patients and health workers at even greater risk.

Even in the face of such danger, Project HOPE remains committed to providing lifesaving medical care, supplies, and support to people in Ukraine and those in other crisis zones where health systems are under attack or stretched to the breaking point.

In Ukraine, we’re partnering with local organizations to deploy mobile medical units, deliver trauma kits and medications, and train frontline health workers. Globally, we’re responding in over 25 countries — from Gaza to Sudan to the Dominican Republic — wherever conflict, disaster, or disease puts lives at risk.
