Dear Ward 8 Residents,
During this budget season, my staff and I are pushing to ensure investments in Ward 8 are solidified. We need more funding for our schools and public safety, more capital investments towards affordable housing, and services for LGBTQ residents in the ward.
In last year’s budget cycle, I advocated for LGBTQ youth in Ward 8 who have experienced homelessness. In partnership with SMYAL ([link removed]) , a new housing facility was awarded $715,000 to support 18 LGBTQ youth in an 18-24 month program. In my effort to be an ally, I will advocate more to fill in the gaps for our LGBTQ residents.
One of the major budget accomplishments under my leadership was securing $21 million dollars for the new Congress Heights Recreation Center. This evening at 6:30 PM, the Department of Parks and Recreation, along with the Department of General Services, will host a community meeting to discuss the renovation plans for Congress Heights Recreation Center. We need your feedback.
I encourage all Ward 8 residents to join by phone or through the meeting link below to listen, learn, and contribute to the conversation. I look forward to seeing you all tonight. Be safe Ward 8.
Regards,
Trayon White, Sr.
Councilmember, Ward 8
