President Donald Trump and his allies have made several dubious broad claims of executive authority. But few have been as sweeping and alarming as his recent assertions related to TikTok.

Recently revealed letters that Attorney General Pam Bondi sent to U.S. tech giants show Trump believes he can arbitrarily exempt companies from federal laws he doesn’t like — a monarchical assertion of power that threatens the rule of law, legal experts warn.

Also, later today, Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee are set to approve the nomination of Emil Bove, Trump’s “hatchet man” in the DOJ, to a lifetime judgeship on a prestigious appeals court.
