LULAC Joins Mother’s Plea For Zero Enlistment Of Latinas Into Military
======================================================================

Nation’s Oldest and Largest Latino Civil Rights Organization Says Disappearance
of Vanessa Guillen Needs Action Now!

Washington, DC - The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) today
demanded immediate steps be taken by the highest levels of the nation’s military,
members of Congress and the White House into what the Army now admits is foul
play connected to why the 20-year old soldier is gone. The following statement
was issued by National President Domingo Garcia:

“It is heartbreaking and we are filled with both anger and anguish over the
disappearance of Vanessa on an American military installation. Even more
troubling is the total and reckless mishandling of the investigation or the lack
of care for her life and well-being. Both seem meaningless to those in command at
Ft. Hood. LULAC has always stood by our armed forces and for 93-years our
organization has proudly honored our Latino men and women who put on an Army
uniform and serve the country they love with honor and distinction. This is what
Vanessa Guillen did. Her life exemplifies the very finest and we will not allow
this crime to be treated lightly, disrespectfully and with callous indifference!

Today we join with Vanessa’s family and issue a predator alert for families and
not to allow your daughters to enlist in the Army, since we see they cannot be
protected. We have received multiple complaints of women soldiers who have been
sexually harassed and assaulted with no actions being taken by superiors to
protect them.

LULAC calls upon Senators John Cornyn, Ted Cruz and President Trump to seize this
moment and show our nation through their leadership that our military truly
matters, not just missiles and tanks, but the men and women who are the shield
for America’s freedoms. Demand that every lead, every tip, every possible path be
followed urgently to bring Vanessa home. LULAC will not rest and will not be
silent until she does.”
