Last night, the House Armed Services Committee approved a nearly $1 TRILLION defense budget. I voted against it. 

Why? Because the budget is bloated with handouts to legacy defense contractors, who have a record of price-gouging taxpayers.

I fully support a strong national defense that meets the demands of the 21st century – that starts by taking on waste and fraud in the Pentagon and saying no to more foreign wars. 

SIGN THE PETITION: Reject wasteful defense spending and invest in supporting working Americans at home.

Republicans just gutted funding for Medicaid, food assistance, education, and renewable energy, saying we can’t afford it. Then the HASC turned around and approved an almost $1 trillion defense budget. 

True national security requires smart budgets, not big budgets. It’s time to cut waste from the Pentagon budget and invest in programs that benefit the American people, such as Medicare For All, $10-a-day childcare, and building new affordable homes.
