More than 300 elected officials and political candidates have now taken our Patients Over Profits pledge to reject campaign contributions of $200 or more from the for-profit health care industry — including Democratic nominee for mayor of New York City, Zohran Mamdani!
Mamdani took our Patients Over Profits pledge at the beginning of his mayoral campaign last November. This 33-year-old New York State Assemblymember won last month’s primary by an astonishing 12 points against nine other candidates, including a corporate-backed former governor from a political dynasty.
How did he do it? By running a groundbreaking primary campaign focused on addressing the rising costs of living with bold, principled solutions. It’s unsurprising that Mamdani supports Medicare for All and rejects Medicare Advantage.
Despite corporate and billionaire-funded super PACs spending at least $25 million against him, Zohran made history in this race by securing more total votes in a New York City primary than ever before!
And he did it by meeting people where they’re at and committing to something better than our current for-profit system. At a time when our health care is being ripped away in Congress to give tax breaks to millionaires and billionaires, this primary proves that people aren’t buying the status quo anymore.
If you aren’t a candidate but know someone who is, forward this email and encourage them to sign on!
This is an exciting and critical time to join us in growing our movement of leaders at every level of government who are committed to putting patients before the wealthy elite and corporations profiting off of our broken system. Let’s keep it up.
In solidarity,
Nurses' Campaign to Win Medicare for All
