The Trump administration just gutted federal funding for state humanities programs—and I’m fighting back.

These cuts threaten to shut down vital programs that connect us to our shared history—programs that reach tens of thousands of Marylanders every year.

That includes:

* Maryland History Day, where students explore the past by creating original projects
* Public programming by WYPR and Maryland Public Television
* Civic education, book festivals, and digital storytelling statewide

Maryland Humanities, our state’s council, has already been forced to scale back its operations. Without action, these programs could disappear.

Trump’s cuts violate federal law by ignoring Congress’s mandate to fund these programs. These cuts threaten schools, libraries, and communities across Maryland, and they undermine our students’ right to learn and explore our shared heritage.

I believe Marylanders—especially our children—deserve access to rich, inclusive, and engaging humanities education. And I won’t let political attacks take that away.
