McKendree Memorial Chapel Association
I want to take a moment to thank you for the support your congregations have shown Old McKendree Chapel over the years. Additionally, I'd like to share several opportunities and encourage you to communicate them to your congregations.
First, I would like to invite your confirmation classes or youth mission groups to visit Old McKendree Chapel. It's rare to have the opportunity to touch and experience a piece of history, but after 200 years, our chapel and cemetery are still standing. Educational materials are available on our website at http://oldmckendree.org for use as lessons or to provide historical context for leaders to share with new Methodists. Please reserve your visit by contacting the caretakers at 573.352.1620 or [email protected].
Second, I want to make you and your congregations aware of an Antiques Appraisal Event on September 20 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at New McKendree South Campus, 1770 S Hope Street, Jackson, MO. This partnership with the Cape Girardeau County Historical Society and Old McKendree Chapel features antiques and jewelry experts from Selkirk Auction House of St. Louis. Everyone is encouraged to bring antique treasures for evaluation by seasoned experts at $10 per item.
Third, I invite you and your congregations to our Annual Service on September 28, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. on the chapel grounds at 4080 Bainbridge Road, Jackson, MO. Jon Thompson will be our speaker, and Ella Crader from Grace United Methodist Church will provide music.
I hope you'll take advantage of any or all of these opportunities to connect with Old McKendree Chapel and its rich Methodist heritage. Whether you're bringing confirmation classes to experience living history, joining us for the antiques appraisal event, or worshipping with us at our Annual Service, your presence helps preserve and celebrate this special place that has served our Methodist community for two centuries. We look forward to welcoming you and your congregations to Old McKendree Chapel.
Respectfully,
Mary Harriet Talbut
President of the Board of Trustees

Big Worship, Little Disciples Information
Big Worship, Little Disciples is a program to help churches better engage children in worship and prayer in developmentally appropriate ways.
This program is for local churches within the Missouri Conference of The United Methodist Church. Ideal participants are churches that are willing and excited to engage in culture change that nurtures the faith of children and every generation, ability, and life stage! We’re looking for churches interested in creating multigenerational experiences that engage different senses and learning styles and explore ancient prayer practices. The goal is to allow all generations - especially children - to develop a deeply rich faith. Be on the lookout in early 2026 for ways to apply for our first open cohort or reach out to the Missouri Conference NextGen Ministries team for more information.
