Across the country, we are seeing with our own eyes how all levels of
government work to deny people the opportunity to exercise their
constitutional right to vote.
Earlier this month in Georgia, voters in predominantly Black neighborhoods
faced hours-long lines and broken voting machines in order to cast their
ballot in Georgia’s primary. In Kentucky’s primary today, there is only
one polling place for the nearly 600,000 residents of Louisville -- home
to the largest share of Black voters in the state.
Today we are launching our Protect America’s Vote campaign. Voter
suppression is real, and we need to fight it on all fronts.
Our campaign is focused on defeating voter suppression everywhere. For
example, we’re working to increase access through registering new voters
and expanding Vote at Home by mail in as many states as possible (and
nationwide in Congress). We’re supporting voters with the information they
need to apply for ballots, turn them in by the deadlines, and find their
polling place should they still need to vote in person. We’re partnering
with our candidates to build voter protection teams that monitor site
workers and assist voters in long lines providing water, snacks and even
holding a place in line for bathroom breaks.
While we continue to fight everywhere nationwide, our Protect America’s
Vote campaign focuses on 13 target states critical to defeating Trump and
flipping the U.S. Senate.
That brings me to Stacey Abrams’ new book, Our Time is Now. In it, Stacey
provides a roadmap to voter protection and what we need to do to save
democracy. Stacey has spent her career fighting to defend the right to
vote and defeat voter suppression.

The Protect America’s Vote campaign aims to stop Republican efforts to
suppress the vote completely in as many places as possible. Where we can’t
stop it, the campaign will work to reduce the impact through direct
support and creative actions.
We will register, engage, turn-out, and protect voters in the wake of the
unique challenges posed by the COVID-19 crisis during the most important
election of our lifetimes.
