John, the stakes of our fight just got much higher.
As I’m sure you’ve seen, President Trump’s hand-picked Supreme Court has been busy this summer handing him victory after victory. Let me explain what just happened — then I’m going to ask for your support [[link removed]] in this fight.
Trump signed a blatantly illegal executive order trying to ban birthright citizenship. Now, with the help of the Supreme Court, he’s allowed to enforce it even while legal challenges move forward.
Donald Trump wasted no time attacking the Constitution by twisting the meaning of the 14th Amendment — a right that’s been protected for over 150 years.
Here’s the deal: the 14th Amendment was added to the U.S. Constitution in 1868, as the country recovered from the Civil War. The amendment not only enshrined citizenship for former slaves — it made sure anyone born in the United States is a citizen.
Choosing to twist the intention of this groundbreaking amendment is nothing short of a racist attempt to erase what ALREADY makes America great.
All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.

Lower courts tried to stop this order — but the Supreme Court refused to block it, allowing it to take effect while legal challenges continue. Lawsuits are in progress, but the damage is already being done. And it’s a clear sign of how far this Court will go to help Trump dismantle the Constitution.
Since Trump can enforce his executive order, this means that while we wait, judges around the country have less power to stop him. And now the floodgates are open for more racist policies we are sure this president will try and implement.
So what does this all mean? Trump is rewriting who gets to be a citizen, who gets to be called an American , and who gets equal justice under the law. And the Supreme Court is giving him cover while he does it.
Now it’s time to fight back. Our A Women’s Place team is supporting democracy-minded women candidates who not only value our Constitution and the separation of powers, but will stop at nothing in office to secure our rights — even when that means standing up to Donald Trump.
